Who are we?
We are a friendly, country lodge with an active membership. We are known for a friendly welcome, the quality of our meals, and the high standard of our ritual.
Since 1911 Stanhope Lodge has been a part of Weardale’s community, with strong emphasis on charity and public service.
We are men of all ages and backgrounds who practice the masonic values of Integrity, Friendship, Respect, Charity.
From farmers to firefighters, entrepreneurs to engineers, teachers to technologists, all find a warm welcome in Stanhope Lodge.
What we do
We meet as a lodge almost every month for a formal masonic meeting followed by a meal.
At our meetings we use ceremony, drama, and symbols to teach and reflect on masonic values.
We have helped local good causes from scout groups to food banks, as well as supporting our members and their families in times of need.
We have regular socials including our Valentine’s and Autumn dinners, as well as special events to mark major occasions like the Diamond Jubilee and Coronation.

We set high standards and we’re serious about what we do, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously and pride ourselves on the life long friendships made in our lodge.
In addition to our good food, good beer, and good cheer we regularly visit other nearby lodges, and welcome masonic visitors from County Durham and further afield.
While most of our members live in Stanhope and the surrounding villages some travel more than an hour to take part in the life of the lodge.
Parking:
Ample street parking is available near the lodge building. An EV charging point is available to members and visitors, please enquire with the secretary.
Approach:
The Lodge building is opposite the Stanhope Sports and Social Club, set back from the street. You may notice the square and compass symbols on the roof.
Entrance:
A green door to the left of the bay window. There is a small step.
Emergency:
A refuge room on the same floor as the lodge room is available in emergencies.
Accessibility:
Stanhope Masonic Hall is accessible to members and visitors with limited mobility, having recently installed a stairlift.
Toilets:
Available on the ground floor.
Inside:
There is a hallway leading to the dining room/bar and the staircase to the Lodge Room.
Stairs/Lifts:
The building has one flight of stairs, which has a stairlift.
