Tyne Dock Lodge Awards

The Master and brethren of Tyne Dock Lodge welcomed the Past Deputy Provincial Grand Master, George Clark to a very special meeting of the Lodge where the original intention was to present long service awards to three of their members. Due to circumstances only one was able to be present.

After the usual introductions George was introduced to the recipient of a 65 years, long service award, Trevor Charles Murray.

George outlined the remarkable life that Trevor has enjoyed so far including his initiation into freemasonry in Hedworth Lodge in 1958. Trevor attained the master’s chair in that lodge in 1970 and 30 years later joined Tyne Dock Lodge, also going through the master’s chair.

Trevor led a very active life being a seagoing engineer and he related many humorous stories of his time at sea. After retiring from his seafaring days, he ended ashore as superintendent of swimming pools in South Tyneside.

The other 2 recipients, both of whom were to receive 50 year’s long service awards were Martin Harry Dinning and Peter Boyack. Arrangements will be made to present them at a venue and time to suit them both.

The festive board was enjoyed by everyone present and George in his reply thanked everyone for their hospitality, and once again congratulated Trevor on his achievement.

Who are we?

Hedworth Lodge No 2418 freemasons lodge was consecrated on 17th December 1891, we have a rich tradition of maintaining masonic principles, friendship, integrity, charity and helping the local community.
We are a progressive, forward thinking and dynamic lodge, currently based in South Shields Masonic Hall, nestled in-between Morrisons supermarket and Brigham & Cowans social club. We are an emulation lodge that meet along with other lodges based in the same hall.

                                

What we do

As Freemasons, we meet at regular intervals, as well as visiting other lodges, either in the same building, or in another town. Our meetings are centred around a Tyled meeting in the temple, the serious stuff, and a festive board, the fun stuff. Regular Masonic business is conducted in the temple, ceremonies, confirmation of minutes etc, then afterwards the brethren retire to enjoy each others company, with a meal and maybe a drink or two.
Our focus is raising funds for various charitable organisations, many, not all, are masonic in nature.

Why join us?

Hedworth Lodge No 2418 is a well-structured lodge, which enables us to guide or mentor newer members, with dedicated lodge membership officers and mentors and co-ordinators, who newer members can contact if they are in need of assistance.
We have many members from all walks of life, and enjoy the diversity of freemasonry.

When we meet

On the last THURSDAY in January; February; March; April; May; August; September; October; November & December. Our annual Installation is held in the month of February. This is when the Lodge install a new Master for the ensuing year. He then in turn invests his officers and wardens to assist him in his duties.

Who are we?

Caer Urfa Lodge pride’s Itself on being one of South Shields, Principal Seafaring lodges, It has now become an exciting and vibrant lodge to visit or join, providing a high standard of masonic ritual and providing significant support to any members wishing to advance their masonic knowledge by taking up office within the Lodge. 

The members of our Lodge put in many hours of hard work to make sure our ritual is exemplary and the hand of friendship is always extended,  this is evident at our Meetings, where we offer a warm and friendly welcome to all our visitors, which is evident in our plentiful repeat visiting Brethren.

Whilst Seafaring and Fraternity is a major part of our ‘Lodge Identity’ it comes with the balance of reassuring our members that the commitments of family and work will often be understandably prioritised over masonic duty. We have a history of supporting our members and their families through the most challenging of times and continue to remember the widows of members who have passed to the Grand Lodge Above each Christmas through the sending of a card and gift. 

                                  

What we do

We pride ourselves on the Social aspects of the lodge, with regular social events for members and their families, we have fraternal ties with Blackpool and Scottish lodges and often organise Fraternal visits to our Brethren in other Provinces and they in turn like to Visit Caer Urfa Lodge.

Who are we?

Tyne Dock Lodge (Consecrated in May 1921) has a deserved reputation for first-class ceremonies and excellence in its Ritual, combining this with a friendly approach which seeks to encourage all members get the maximum enjoyment out of their Membership.

What we do

Tyne Dock Lodge cherishes and respects the traditions and practices handed down for over 100 years, but also embraces modern technology by holding weekly Zoom Meetings to facilitate and encourage the involvement of its members. The Lodge produces a regular Newsletter which keeps members up to date with all aspects of the Lodge. Our Social Events (Ladies Night and Burns Night) are very popular and enable the introduction of friends into our welcoming environment. Our extensive charitable work is evidenced by the Lodge’s name on the Foundation Stone of the Marie Curie Hospice in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Why join us?

Our membership spans newly Initiated brethren in their twenties, setting out on their Masonic adventure, up to nonagenarians who have rich experiences to draw upon for the benefit of the new members. Whatever your age, you will be warmly welcomed into the Lodge, and be encouraged to participate as much as you wish to hopefully increase your Masonic knowledge and proficiency.

Who are we?

One of the “newer” Lodges in South Shields we were Consecrated on 9th June 1945; a history long enough for us to have established our own high standards and valued traditions.

What we do

We take great pride in the quality of ritual that we seek to deliver; knowing that the stories we convey to the candidates will create a lasting impression on them. By clearly communicating the principles of Freemasonry embodied in our ritual, we as members of St Lawrence will then seek to reinforce them to the initiates by the way we conduct ourselves both within and without the Lodge Room. We have a strong structure of fraternal visits within the Province and also an important annual sojourn to Scotland which is reciprocated.

Why join us?

St Lawrence Lodge has an eclectic mix of members consisting of those for whom it is their Mother Lodge, many who for various reasons have become joining members as a replacement for their own Mother Lodge and those who have come to see it as a “second home”. As such we bring a very broad spectrum of experience and connections that can only serve to enhance the experience of any new Mason who aspires to initiation into the Lodge. Our standards are high but our support mechanism is well tuned to welcome and cradle the initiates as they take their first regular steps within the Lodge and beyond.

Who are we?

The Lodge of Fellowship No 9694 was consecrated on the 3rd July 1999, by twenty-eight likeminded freemasons. Two of the original founders are still members of the lodge.

Many of the Worshipful Masters have many dedicated years in freemasonry and  past masters of other lodges.

The ages of the brethren ranges from the youngest being 44 and the eldest being 95 years old. 

The most common age group is between 71 to 80 years age group (8).

Several of the brethren have received their 50 year and 60-year certificates.

What we do

The lodge would suit new members who prefer to limit their activities to the day time rather the usual night time lodge evenings.

The lodge only meets on the last Wednesday of February, April July and October which would be suitable to potential members who wish to limit any new commitments to their life-style.

An amendment to the lodge by-laws, to add June and August was presented to PGLD in April 2022.

The 25th Anniversary of the consecration  of the lodge will be celebrated in  2024. The lodge is raising funds to celebrate this event.

The lodge members attend other lodges as many of the brethren are in other lodges and side degrees.

Why join us?

The lodge is a ” day time lodge” meeting at 10:30hrs on the last Wednesday in the months of February, installation month of April, July and August.

As the Lodge of Fellowship has a “more mature age group” profile and is always looking for new members to increase the lodge membership, the Lodge of Fellowship would  welcome potential candidates through the referral of the Provincial Membership Team.

The lodge would welcome any brother who wishes to join the Lodge of Fellowship, including members of other lodges or brethren would are reducing the involvement in freemason but wish to continue to be in a “less commitment demanding” lodge.

The lodge is a ‘day time lodge’”’ meeting at 10:30 hrs on the last Wednesday in the months of February,  April, July and October.
