Running up a Big Cheque
Ten year old Matthew Carlise was amazed at the powerful comfort of a TLC Teddies hug when his best friend received one after breaking his arm on New Year’s eve. He was so moved that he asked his Dad Ian, who is a member of Yoden Lodge in Castle Eden , if he could raise funds for the Teddy’s by running the Junior North run.
Not only did he run the 4km on the day of the event but as his Mum Rachel says “we were so pleased with what Matthew did, he organised his own fundraising site, undertook presentations at his school and undertook regular training runs”. Dad Ian said “£600 was a fantastic effort and we were amazed how his friends and family were equally moved by the Teddies that they gave so generously.”
Matthew has now developed a more lasting interest in running and runs for his School and is shortly to compete to gain entry to the County trials.
The Teddies Hall Ambassador for Castle Eden Alan Reardon and big Ted Kevin Carter were on hand to receive a giant presentation cheque made by Matthew. Duncan Maw, TLC Coordinator for the Province of Durham thanked Matthew and his parents and went on to say “we often forget what a big difference the Teddies make to young people at traumatic times in their lives. Matthews’s action only goes to underline what a positive impact we are making as Freemasons throughout the Province of Durham by funding the Teddies”.
