Another Pleasing Duty
A small Deputation lead by the Provincial Grand Master, John Arthur, attended Lodge of Freedom, which meet at Stockton Masonic Hall. The reason for this visit was to obligate, invest and appoint, Andrew Moule, as the new Assistant Provincial Grand Master.
After Taking the Chair, John Arthur conducted the investiture of Andrew Moule, before, presenting Andrew with his chain of office. Tom Gittins , the Provincial Grand Secretary, then stood to read out a special Charter for the Lodges’ Centenary, this was then handed to the current Master of the Lodge, Andrew Moule, pleasantly receiving his second presentation for the evening.
Once the business of the evening was concluded in the lodge room, all retired for an excellent meal accompanied by wine at the festive board.
After the toast to the Provincial Grand Master, John Arthur responded firstly, that he needed to carry out some pleasing duties, he asked John Thompson to assist him, by presenting the 2021 Festivals Platinum award to the Lodge. Just at the point of John Thompson’s usual ‘photo opportunity’ pose for the cameras, John Arthur interrupted the proceedings and asked the bewildered John Thompson to remain standing whilst Tom Gittins read something out. This was to be the Provincial Grand Masters, Certificate of Service to Freemasonry, after which John Arthur handed the framed certificate to John Thompson followed by a rapturous applause.
John responded by saying ‘’ I’m Absolutely blown away tonight to receive the Certificate of Service to Freemasonry from the Provincial Grand Master, its been an absolute pleasure to support the Provincial Grand Lodge of Durham Over the last 8 years and I will continue to do so from the back benches. It was wonderful tonight to see Andrew Moule invested as our new Assistant Provincial Grand Master. Many thanks to everyone who has supported me over the last few years, I’m immensely grateful’’.
Finally on the reply to the toast of the Provincial officers, the acting Senior Warden, Martin Jameson responded by referring to the evening had been like waiting for a bus, then two come along both at the same time! But this was Andrew’s show, this evening and he finished off the night with his inevitable wit and charm, thanking everyone for making this a special night for him as the new Assistant Provincial Grand Master.
